What is Junior League of Lafayette?

Our Mission statement best describes Junior League of Lafayette: Junior League of Lafayette is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

What does Junior League of Lafayette do to serve the community?

In 2019-2020, Junior League of Lafayette (JLL) contributed over 26,900 volunteer hours, valued at more than $496,000, to support community agencies and programs throughout the Lafayette community. JLL partners with many local nonprofits, working within their programs to help better our community. In addition, JLL offers direct assistance in the form of collaborative grants awarded to nonprofit agencies. As part of its Mission, Junior League also trains its volunteers to assume leadership positions throughout the community. Many League members sit as outside board representatives on the boards of nonprofit agencies throughout the city.

How does Junior League of Lafayette determine which agencies/projects it will support?

Junior League of Lafayette takes volunteer requests. Our Community Impact Committee will research and review each request to determine whether the request represents a critical need in the community and whether the volunteer service requested will meet the needs of Junior League’s volunteers. The Community Research Committee then prioritizes the requests based upon the interest of the general membership and presents the approved requests for final approval.

How can my agency request volunteers and/or funding?

How does Junior League of Lafayette raise money?

Junior League of Lafayette raises funds through our annual Tinsel & Treasures holiday market, a fun and exciting event where retailers from around the country gather in Lafayette for a three-day shopping event at CAJUNDOME Convention Center. The market is open to the public and tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 337.988.2739 or at the door. We also have four award-winning cookbooks: Talk About Good!, Talk About Good II, Tell Me More and Something to Talk About. Cookbooks can be purchased by calling 1-800.757.3651.

Why does Junior League of Lafayette raise money?

Money raised by Junior League of Lafayette is used to support our community programs and grants awarded to nonprofit agencies. In addition to funding, hundreds of trained volunteers contribute to community efforts both in the area of child health and development, as well as other areas of need.

How can I become a member of Junior League of Lafayette?

Junior League of Lafayette conducts Prospective Member Meetings in the winter and spring of each year. Membership in Junior League is open to all women who are 23 years of age who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism. I am a member in good standing of another Junior League. How do I transfer my League membership when I move to Lafayette?

To transfer your membership to Junior League of Lafayette, contact the Secretary of the League you plan to transfer from. She will initiate the process and assist you with the transfer.

I used to be a member of Junior League of Lafayette, but resigned in good standing. How do I reinstate my membership?

Contact the Secretary or League Headquarters at 337.988.2739 or jll@juniorleagueoflafayette.com with your desire to reinstate your membership to Junior League of Lafayette, and we will assist you with the reinstatement process.
