What is Junior League?
Our Mission statement best describes what Junior League is: Junior League of Lafayette is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
What does Junior League of Lafayette do to serve the community? In 2014-2015, Junior League of Lafayette contributed over 20,000 volunteer hours valued at more than $395,000 to support community agencies and programs throughout the Lafayette community. Junior League is partnered with many local nonprofits, working within their programs to help better our community. In addition, JLL offers direct assistance in the form of resource and enrichment grants awarded to nonprofit agencies. As part of its Mission, Junior League also trains its volunteers to assume leadership positions once they are no longer active members of the League. Many League members sit as outside board representatives on the boards of nonprofit agencies throughout the city.
How does Junior League determine which agencies/projects it will support?
Junior League of Lafayette takes volunteer requests. Our Community Research Committee will research and review each request to determine whether the request represents a critical need in the community and whether the volunteer service requested will meet the needs of Junior League's volunteers. The Community Research Committee then prioritizes the requests based upon a determination of the interest of the general membership, and presents the approved requests for final approval.
How can my agency request volunteers and/or funding?
Any interested agency should submit an application to Junior League of Lafayette to be considered for volunteers and funding for their projects. Contact the Community Vice President with any further questions.
