Junior Quiz Bowl
Junior League members work with the Junior Quiz Bowl to promote and conduct educational competitions and academic excellence at the 7th and 8th grade levels. Their involvement includes: arranging locations, questions, schedules, and contacting schools. The 2008-09 application period for schools in the Acadiana area interested in forming a team of seventh and eighth-graders is closed.
Opportunity Knocks
Members of Junior League collaborate to ensure needs of the community are being met. This program, Opportunity Knocks, is focused on recognizing needs in the community and working to respond immediately to short-term needs in the community.
Young-at-Heart
Junior League has developed a program called Young-at-Heart, which was designed to provide interaction between the elderly and high schoolers. Junior League members serve as a liaison between the high schools and nursing homes. This program allows high schoolers to learn compassion and empathy for the elderly, and the elderly to enhance their life through communication with young people.
SMILES
Members of the Junior League establish and implement activities for children whose parents or siblings have cancer. Providing an escape and supportive environment that they can go to.
No Fear No Future
We focus on educating the Lafayette community on the large number of alcohol-related fatalities which, in Louisiana, is well above the national average. The education is targeted to high school aged students through a two day school-based program that promotes responsible decision making regarding drinking and driving. Visit our events page for more information about this program.
